Match report

Ledbury Town’s pre-season success following an opening 4-1 victory over Monmouth Town Reserves at New Street continued a week later over at Longford in Gloucester against Gala Wilton, with Tom Boyle picking up another hat-trick as Lewis Williams also found the back of the net.

Boyle, winner of the Ledbury first team’s Players’ Player Award as well as his side’s Top Goalscorer Award along with the Herefordshire League’s Golden Boot last season with an impressive 29 goals scored over King Baidoo of Hartpury’s total of 26, broke the deadlock against the MARCLIFF Gloucestershire County Football League outfit formerly managed by Town boss Ian Merrick half an hour in, going on to complete his double soon after the break with a superb long-range effort off the post.

Great work from returning forward Pat Morgan found Williams, who performed a cheeky back-heal to make it 3-0 midway through the second period, before Boyle achieved his treble in style through neatly slotting the ball past the Gala goalkeeper.

Matt Tristram, returning to Town following a couple of seasons’ hiatus was named man of the match for the visitors, as a confident Ledbury senior outfit have a further double pre-season test coming up soon, hosting Longlevens Reserves on Tuesday 26th July (KO 7:30pm) and Tuffley Rovers three days later (KO 7:45pm).

Two further Saturday friendlies will then follow at New Street against Hereford FC Under 18s on August 6th and FC Tredegar on August 13th (both games KO 3:00pm), before Ledbury’s new season in the newly-named Herefordshire Football League, consisting of a sizeable eighteen teams in the Premier Division, looks set to kick-off on Saturday 20th August (opponents, venue and kick-off time all to be confirmed).
