Match report
After a frozen pitch at New Street last weekend postponed a long-awaited Herefordshire Football League Premier Division rematch against arch rivals Hereford Lads Club Reserves, Ledbury Town are still waiting for a first home league game of 2023 after the cancellation of this week’s match due to opponents Coppertops FC being unable to field a side for a home walkover.
Ian Merrick’s senior squad, slipping to second in the league as the Pegasus second string took full advantage of Coppertops’ no-show this weekend to defeat other league newcomers this season Westfields Development 3-2 at Old School Lane to go two points clear but with Ledbury retaining the game in hand, will instead have three away fixtures throughout February, beginning with a trip to The Kensal Ground for a first meeting of the season against mid-table Wellington Rangers this coming weekend (KO 2:30pm).
More than a fortnight’s break will see Town face Hinton for a second time this season at Broomy Hill in a Tuesday evening encounter on 21st February (KO 7:45pm), before travelling to Palmers Meadow four days later for a first encounter of the season against lowly Tenbury United (KO 2:00pm).
Merrick’s men have already thumped second-from-bottom Hinton with a 7-1 demolition at New Street at the start of October, when both Josh Burns and returning substitute player Patrick Morgan scored doubles, with Boyle and Febery also on target for the hosts as booked Hinton substitute striker Robert Gonsales found the only consolation goal for the visitors.
