Match report

Ledbury Town Reserves maintained their steady mid-table position in Division One of the Herefordshire FA County League this week by holding Tenbury United, occupying the sixth spot just above them, to a goalless draw at a sunny New Street.

In a far cry from the six-goal fest which occurred the last time the two sides met at Palmers Meadow in Ledbury’s penultimate and Tenbury’s final game before the Christmas break, when Tom Skittery and sixteen-year-old Jake Clueit scored either side of an own goal from United as Ryan Morris picked up a brace for the hosts, with Michael Wood also on target for the blue and yellow shirts for a 3-3 draw, neither side could break the deadlock on this occasion at the reserves’ historic ground.

Samuel Palmer-Young was named man of the match for the hosts, as Ledbury second string manager David Butcher summed his side’s performance up:

“The lads battled well, with a much better performance than last week when we lost 1-0 at Burghill.”

“Unfortunately, we just couldn’t find the breakthrough against such stubborn opposition, despite all of our lads putting in a good performance.”

“We battled for every ball, with the back four defending well especially seeing as some of our players were out of their usual position.”

“We are becoming a hard side to beat at home, only having lost there once all season. We have five games left at New Street, and so hopefully this will really help us towards the end of the season.”

The reserves will end a busy March of fixtures however with a first visit of the season to the Brimfield and Little Hereford Sports Club this coming weekend, to face current eighth place holders Tenbury Town (KO 2:30pm).

Butcher’s young squad are yet to lock horns with the league’s other Tenbury outfit this season, after their scheduled first meeting at New Street was postponed exactly a month ago due to a waterlogged pitch caused by Storm Eunice.
