Ledbury Town’s scheduled second Herefordshire Football League Premier Division meeting of the season against Wellington Rangers was postponed on Friday evening after a day of torrential showers created a waterlogged pitch at New Street.
Ian Merrick’s league leaders will instead play the current ninth place holders on the rescheduled date of Saturday 6th May as their final league game of the season, hoping to equal or improve upon the 3-1 victory scored at The Kensal Ground which gave Ledbury their first win of 2023 in early February.
Ben Febery bagged a second-half brace during the two sides’ previous meeting following a 20th minute opener from Ryan Pugh, who was sadly put out of action with a dislocated shoulder fifteen minutes into the latter half of play.
Tom Trigg took the man of the match accolade for Town for a solid defensive display throughout as Jordan Mann found Wellington’s only consolation goal eight minutes after Pugh found the net.
The black and white shirts have a busy Easter Bank Holiday weekend coming up however, taking on mid-table Holme Lacy away this coming Saturday before making the lengthy trip to the Knowle Sports Ground to play sixth place holders Clee Hill United on Easter Monday (both games KO 2:30pm).
Goals from Joel Skyers and Ben Febery bought Ledbury a 2-0 victory during their first meeting with Holme Lacy at New Street during the very first league game of the season played back in mid-August, with Pete Jeynes taking the man of the match title for an industrious shift at the back.
Although Clee Hill have provided Town with some highly formidable games over recent seasons, Merrick’s men have already defeated the Shropshire-based outfit with 4-0 and 2-0 wins at New Street respectively during the fourth league game of the season back at the start of September, and in the semi-finals of this season’s Herefordshire FA Charity Bowl cup competition played back in early March.
Man of the match Burns and Boyle bagged braces during the league meeting to send Ledbury to the top of the league for the first time this season, while a very early goal from recent new signing Rares Micula, cousin of Cosmin was accompanied by an unfortunate own goal from young visiting defender Freddie Barnes five minutes from the break to give Town all they needed to face a third Charity Bowl final in the space of four years against Tenbury United at the Herefordshire FA County Ground on Wednesday 10th May (KO 7:45pm).
