Match report
Although Ledbury Town Swifts are still hunting for a first victory in their second season back in Division Two of the Herefordshire Football League, their latest result against Tenbury United Colts at the Brimfield and Little Hereford Sports Club showed further promise in terms of goals conceded and the deficit in the final scoreline.
The Ledbury third string, formed at the beginning of last season from the strengthened relationship between Ledbury Town Football Club and Ledbury Swifts Junior Football Club, took the lead in a third consecutive opening away game of the season through Tom Goodwin after weathering some early pressure, before a dubious penalty was given a short time later.
Despite Swifts goalkeeper Sam Billingham diving the right way, he was unable to keep the spot kick from Jamie Farrar out as Ashley Giles added a second for Tenbury before the interval.
The visitors created several more chances during the second period but were unable to finish them, with the push for the equalizer leaving the black and white shirts open to attack as Colts substitute player Euan Morgan took his chance to make the final score 3-1 in the hosts’ favour.
Harrison Dolby picked up a Colts yellow card from referee for the day Geoff Banham, as Harry Millis was given a well-deserved man of the match accolade for the Swifts for his high work rate throughout the game.
Visiting manager Neil Davis was still positive despite his side’s latest defeat:
“I’m very happy with the attitude and work rate of the players, especially as some of them are playing out of their normal positions.”
“On another day we could have scored four or five goals. We’re getting better every game, which is very encouraging.”
The Ledbury third string, still aiming to lift themselves off the bottom of the table, have a break from league action for the time-being, ready for a stern challenge at their Ledbury Rugby Football Club Ross Road venue on Saturday 8th October when they play a first home game of the season against current second place holders Wellington Colts (KO 2:30pm).
